POETRY OUT LOUD
We held our first ever Poetry Out Loud contest January 21st at the 9/10 auditorium. The competition, presented in partnership with Connect2Culture, The Missouri Arts Council, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Poetry Foundation, is part of a national program that encourages high school students to learn about great poetry through memorization, performance, and competition. We had three finalists participate: Katherine Wartnaby, Melinche Roy and Elaina Kitch.
Katherine Wartnaby, winner at the school wide contest, will advance to the Regional Poetry Out Loud contest in Springfield, MO in February. The regional winner will advance to the state competition. The Missouri state champion will advance to the Poetry Out Loud National Finals on April 28-29, 2014 in Washington, D.C., where $50,000 dollars in awards and school prizes will be distributed.
Please congratulate Katherine, Melinche and Elaina on a job well done!
A special thank you to Mrs. Burgess, Mrs. Jarrett, Mrs. Mathes, Ms. Emily Frankoski with Connect2Culture and Mrs. Cleo Copeland, supporter of community arts. This would not have been possible without you!
